Ginger

Ginger has been known as a digestive aid for over the centuries in India. Recent research shows that it also possesses extremely beneficial properties like preventing inflammation (pain caused by arthritis etc), anti-cancer property, help in reducing blood cholesterol. So why not add a little bit every time you brew that tea? Or use fresh ginger instead of bottled ginger-garlic paste while cooking your favorite meal.

"Ginger Tea Recipe*
  • water, 4 cups
  • 2-inch piece of fresh ginger root
  • optional: honey and lemon slice

    Peel the ginger root and slice it into thin slices. Bring the water to a boil in a saucepan. Once it is boiling, add the ginger. Cover it and reduce to a simmer for 15-20 minutes. Strain the tea. Add honey and lemon to taste.

    Note: Keep in mind that if you are making ginger tea as a home remedy during cold and flu season, sweeteners are not recommended."

    Please note that the above recipe is for "tea" with no "tea powder" in it :) For the traditional Desi Chai, you know what to do, just add a spoonful of tea in water and bring it to boil keeping all other ingredients as stated above.
